With the new year upon us, we thought we would reveal our top 5 most popular design trend predictions for 2016.

Neon

While muted greys are on their way out, neon colours are definitely in for 2016! From daring wall shades, to edgy artwork, to fashionable furniture, a property's palette doesn't need to be magnolia. Over the past few months we've seen a growing number of homeowners pair pristine white walls with bold, colourful design features, which add character to both traditional and ultra-modern schemes. The sleek open-plan kitchen in this three bedroom Oakleigh Park bungalow proves how effective this trend can be.

Traditional Tiles

Patterned and geometric tiles were once commonplace in 19th-century Victorian properties, but were replaced in favour of carpets and wood floors as design tastes changed. But now they're back for 2016. With interior companies selling reproduction designs to complement modern tastes, tiles are being used to liven up kitchen splashbacks, add decorative detail to traditional bathrooms and heighten the welcoming feel of hallways, which is a space that is often left neglected. Whilst some people opt for crazy colour combinations to add character to a room, others choose more subtle, sophisticated designs, like the one in this elegant Dulwich property's period-style bathroom.

Metallics

Move over silver and gold, copper and bronze are this year's interior design staples. There are lots of inexpensive ways to integrate metallics into your existing design scheme, with most high street homes stores selling accessories for a quick interior fashion fix. But if you've got a bigger budget, why not experiment with metallic shades in wall coverings and tiles, statement light features and striking hotel-style fixtures–like those in this Belsize Park pad, which are among the most stylish we've seen so far!

Bold Blues

Although white firmly remains the decorative theme of choice for most London properties, those brave enough to experiment with deep blues are bang on trend. While some might think it's a daring design decision, if executed correctly, dark walls can add a luxurious, opulent quality to a room–particularly in dining rooms and kitchens. But be mindful of how much natural light filters into a room, as dramatic hues can leave a space feeling cold. Take a look at the reception room of this impressive South Kensington apartment for some interior inspiration.

Floral Prints and Foliage

Bring the outside in with this year's floral fashion. Forget delicate patterns, we're seeing an upward trend in the number of living spaces featuring bold blossoms, tropical prints and exotic plants, which add life to any room. From subtler takes on the trend, to a no holds barred approach–like the wallpaper in this beautiful Barnet residence–we think this trend is blooming marvellous!
