With the glorious sun shining here in England, albeit intermittently, why travel abroad for your summer holiday? We’ve got some stunning properties in and around London that are perfect for a peaceful getaway this summer and will keep your carbon footprint to a minimum. So don’t jet off, jump on a train instead to have your perfect summer getaway without all the hard work of getting there.

Wonersh Common, Wonersh, GU5

Situated south of Guildford, Wonersh contains three Conservation Areas and is surrounded by countryside, but with this stunning five bedroom Grade I listed manor you wouldn’t even have to leave its grounds to have your share of the quintessential English countryside.

With a rich and varied history and strong connections to royalty, having been visited by the Royal family in the early 20th century (including King George V and Queen Mary), this property provides you with the opportunity to enjoy traditional grandeur amongst beautiful surroundings.

The exceptionally extensive, outstanding gardens offer the rare inclusion of a lake as well as a charming bridge over a canal and enchanting flower beds. You’d be hard pressed to find somewhere quite as idyllic to spend your summer!

Merrow Grange, Guildford, GU1

Guildford is just over a 30 minute journey from Clapham Junction, but presents a world of difference with the nearby Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Beauty and village feel, making it a fantastic country escape that’s easily reachable.

This impressive Grade II listed building currently includes a three bedroom flat that is available to rent on a short let basis. Surrounded by extensive communal grounds, it’s easy to forget that the property is actually only a stone’s throw from London with numerous mature trees and large well maintained lawns.

Within the building, grand period décor features throughout the communal areas, while the flat itself offers a striking spiral staircase, a stylish fireplace with a working gas fire and a modern finish.

Angel Road, Thames Ditton, KT7

Situated just over a half an hour journey from London Waterloo, Thames Ditton provides the opportunity for peaceful walks through nearby Hampton Court Park and along the River Thames, with the option of an indulgent pub lunch at the end of your exploring.

Set overlooking the picturesque Gigg’s Hill Green, this charming two bedroom cottage is available to rent short term so that you can enjoy a slice of country living this summer without having to leave London.

Warm wood floors and characterful touches makes this home’s interiors just as welcoming as the area it’s situated in, providing the perfect option for a quiet get away.

Eel Pie Island, Twickenham, TW1

Reached only by footbridge or by boat, Eel Pie Island is set in the River Thames at Twickenham. It was popular in the 1960s as a major jazz and blues venue and maintains its creative connections today, boasting no less than 26 artist’s studios.

This two bedroom bungalow doesn’t disappoint with its artistic setting and beautifully decorated interiors throughout, while also offering a delightful private garden with a patio area.

With the River Thames on its doorstep and such attractive surroundings, it’s the ideal area for sparking your creativity if you’re looking for some inspiration to create a masterpiece of your own, or simply to relax in the serene environment of this stunning setting that is still within the capital.

Coombe House Chase, Coombe, KT3

Coombe in South West London has an intriguing historic background with past discoveries of Roman coins and other ancient artefacts in the area, while today it attracts residents with its spectacular surrounding greenery, also being ideally located to enjoy both Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park.

The ivy clothed exterior of this impressive four bedroom house helps it blend into its natural setting, while contemporary interiors offer a luxurious setting for your stay, including a sleek high specification kitchen that provides access out to the large private rear garden.
