The lowdown on London’s lidos

When it comes to the summer, the draw of the beach is inevitable but it’s not always easy to find the time to travel down to the coast. Well, with this selection of London based lidos you won’t need to! We’ve even found nearby properties for any swimming fanatics who just can’t tear themselves away.

Tooting Bec Lido

This is the largest fresh water open air swimming pool in England, giving you plenty of room to practice your breaststroke. It’s open to the public from 1st May to 21st August, 6am to 8pm and September 6am to 5pm, so you can even squeeze in a dip before work.

This one bedroom flat is set on the raised ground floor of a beautiful period conversion that is just over a 10 minute walk from Tooting Bec Lido. The apartment offers traditional features throughout, as well as access to a lovely communal garden.

Brockwell Lido

Searching for an elegant setting for your swimming? Brockwell Lido might just fit the bill. It comes with a Grade II listed art deco building that includes a gym, a studio and a hydrotherapy pool, while the lido café looks out over the 50m open air swimming pool. It’s affectionately referred to as ‘Brixton Beach’ and is open from as early as 5.10am and as late as 8pm.

12 minutes is all it takes to get to Brockwell Lido from this stylish two bedroom ground floor flat. A sleek open-plan kitchen/reception room that opens out to a private garden is a further point in favour, while modern fixtures and fittings are consistent throughout.

London Fields Lido

For those who aren’t willing to gamble on the unpredictability of the English weather, London Fields Lido is a heated 50m outdoor pool open all year round from 6:30am to 9pm. Swimming lessons are offered for both children and adults, so there’s no excuse not to take the plunge.

Set on the first floor of a grand period conversion, this wonderfully bright two bedroom flat is 0.5 miles away from London Fields Lido, as well as being within easy reach of London Fields Underground Station for the Overground connection.

The Serpentine Lido

The Serpentine Lido in Hyde Park has been around for over 100 years and the Serpentine Swimming Club is the oldest swimming club in Britain, which even boasts a traditional race on Christmas day! The lido is open 10am-6pm every day throughout June, July and August, and includes a paddling pool for children, making it a brilliant setting for a family day out.

Enviably located right by Hyde Park and just a short walk from The Serpentine Lido, this recently refurbished chic two bedroom duplex flat offers a stylish setting in a prestigious area, with porter services and a lift.

If it’s not quite enough for you to be close to a lido and you’d prefer your own private swimming pool, then take a look at the superb swimming pools on our Home Inspiration page or read this blog to find your perfect apartment with a swimming pool.

Alternatively, avoid the hassle and snap up a property that already comes with one, like this six bedroom house we have in Theydon Bois.
