A day in the life of a Protographer
What does the role of a Protographer really involve? One of our Protographers gives you an inside view.

A typical day...
The day begins by picking up the keys for your appointments from your local Foxtons' office. Each Protographer has a designated area to cover, which enables them to get to know the specific local area and to build relationships with the personnel within that division.
Appointments will have been scheduled into your diary the night before and details of the properties will be provided with each appointment. Mornings tend to be the most accessible time to visit the properties, as this is the time that the Negotiators are making their telephone calls for the day. This means keys are usually available. If the owner of the property wishes to be present for the appointment we will of course be flexible to find a time that suits them.
As a Protographer you are responsible for collecting all the necessary information needed to produce a set of property details to enable the property to be marketed, but once inside a property each Protographer will develop their own routine. For example, the Protographer may begin by walking around the property to take electronic measurements of each room for the detailed floorplan. While this is being undertaken, the Protographer also has the opportunity to work out the best shots to take of the property.
After noting all the particulars of the property, a minimum of six photos need to be taken, followed by the 360 degree shot of the main reception room. There is a level of uniformity in the arrangement of the photos and details; yet the opportunity to be creative is there when you encounter an unusual property that requires an alternative approach in order to capture its unique features.
There is a great sense of achievement and pride when a vendor gives positive feedback on the details you have produced
There is an element of freedom to plan your own mornings, but during the afternoons, back in the office you need to select the shots you want to use and produce the finished details. The descriptions of the property must be exact and concise in order to present the property accurately. You will also need to have great attention to detail, as precision is essential in maintaining our reputation of quality.
We aim to process a property in 48 hours from the time of visiting the property to having all marketing material live on the internet, printed as property details and prepared for magazine and newspaper advertising. Therefore you must have excellent keyboard and writing skills, attention to detail and good time management in order to meet your deadlines.
Nothing beats seeing your photos in print, often appearing not only in our own marketing materials, but also in external publications.
