  1. This beautiful English village is nestled in the Surrey Hils (Area of outstanding beauty), 5 miles inbetween Guildford and Dorking. The views in the village and up into the hills are absolutely breathtaking. It dates back to the 1500s (at least) is steeped in history, has 2 village pubs, church, post office, forge, green grocers and 24/7 co-op, plus the village stream and ducks. It's amazing that you can be in the heart of the countryside yet located immediately off the A25 and so comutable to London. By rail from Gomshall it is less than an hour to Paddington, including changing at Guildford. Gomshall station is an 8 minute walk or 2 minute bus ride (you don't even need a car!) . Alternatively you can get to London Bridge by changing at Redhill. Of course you can drive to Guildford or Dorking (Dorking is closer) for a direct train. It's a great place to be in your spare time, very popular for walking and cycling around the surrounding villages and hills including Aldbury, Holmbury St Mary, Peaslake, Friday Street, Leith Hill and Newlands Corner. Shere village featured in the film The Holiday, with Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black, The Wedding Date with Debra Messing and was the church where Bridget Jones married in The Edge of Reason. I think Shere prvovides the perfect mix of worklife balance. Submitted January 2012 via the website
