Balham and the surrounding areas are filled with outdoor space, from the vast gardens of period homes to the open grasslands of parks and commons.
With summer now upon us, residents can finally spend their spare time in the sun, so to celebrate, I'd like to highlight some of my favourite local spots. Flanked by Balham and Battersea, Clapham Common is especially popular with younger local residents.
On a sunny day, joggers and amateur footballers alike savour its charms, while events such as Ben and Jerry's Summer Sundae keep music lovers entertained.
For an al fresco coffee and catch up, Bellvue Road on Wandsworth Common is hard to beat; home to countless charming boutiques and cafés as well as Michelin starred French restaurant, Chez Bruce its pavements brim with diners as the weather warms up.
For young and old alike, Tooting Bec Lido is the largest open-air pool in London.
A great place to exercise or just splash around, it has served the aquatic needs of locals since 1906 and is an enduring draw to the greater Tooting Bec Common. The popularity of public outdoor space is often due to a lack of private outdoor space back home, but here in Balham, a wealth of older houses offer lovely gardens and terraces.
One property on our books on Henry Tate Mews in Streatham, named after the 19th century sugar magnate and art collector who once called it home, offers an abundance of lush greenery.
Found in a secure gated development, the property's private 110' garden provides seclusion in this busy city.
Add this to seven acres of shared historic grounds and it's easy to see why the future owner of this property would want to spend their whole summer at home. Foxtons.co.uk/1356552 This five bedroomed Victorian house on Moring Road in Tooting Bec exchanged contracts just over a month after the fantastic offer of 655,000 was accepted. This lovely three bedroomed Victorian garden flat on Endymion Road just off Brixton Hill recently sold for the asking price of 329,950.
