Battersea is one of London's prime areas for outside space and visitors come from far and wide to enjoy the delights of its radiant greenery, but today's Battersea Park is a far cry from Battersea Fields, the marshy land upon which the current park stands.

Once frequented by gamblers and raucous revellers around the time of the industrial revolution, the park now throngs with families and fitness enthusiasts.

Moreover, a peace pagoda that was given to London by the Japanese Buddhist Order in 1985 occupies a prominent spot on the riverside promenade an ironic twist, considering this peaceful park was once the scene of duels at dawn. Further south, residents enjoy the benefits of two delightful commons.

Clapham Common, home to both London's largest bandstand and a popular `Aussie Rules' football final, has several ponds that attract model boating buffs and anglers hoping to hook a prize carp; nearby Wandsworth Common is better known for its ecological and ornamental gardens.

The combined popularity of these two commons is clear from the value of the properties situated between them. The gardens of Battersea houses tend not to be substantial but there are some exceptions to this rule.

I am delighted to be marketing a three bedroomed ground floor flat close to the bars and boutiques of Battersea Rise and Northcote Road; not only is the interior spacious and bright but the garden is uncommonly large.

Stretching to 55', it spans the width of the property, making room for a well-tended lawn, pretty flower beds and a paved area ideally suited to summer entertaining. Foxtons.co.uk/1341209 We have recently received an excellent offer for this two bedroomed flat on Altenburg Gardens, which we were marketing for just under 600,000. This immaculate fourth floor apartment in Battersea Reach has three well-proportioned bedrooms and far-reaching views.

It was on the market for 980,000 for just two weeks before attracting an impressive offer.
