South London's industrial past is more associated with coal and candles than classical music but, until 2003, Clapham was home to a prominent piano factory. Established in 1876, Whelpdale Maxwell & Codd were originally importers of Bluthner pianos from Leipzig but when a ferocious fire ravaged Squire & Longson's piano factory in 1938 the company seized the opportunity to make their mark in manufacturing.

They acquired the newly unemployed workforce of piano specialists and began to build pianos under the Welmar name, an enterprise that continued until the company's eventual demise in 2003. The factory has since been converted into live/work units and I am delighted to be marketing a splendid two bedroomed house within the development.

Unusually, the bedrooms and two bathrooms are on the ground floor but the thinking behind this layout becomes clear upon entering the first floor reception room.

Skylights illuminate the exposed brickwork and wood beams while the dramatic dimensions easily accommodate a mezzanine level; although this could be used as a cosy study or relaxation area, it isn't quite big enough for a grand piano! Nestled underneath is a well equipped kitchen and dining area where wood floors, extensive storage and funky glass brickwork are very much in tune with the contemporary design. Not only does the house have off-street parking and a balcony but Welmar Mews is within easy reach of two underground stations and the green retreat of Clapham Common.

For tenants in search of something unusual and full of character, this property is a fantastic find. Foxtons.co.uk/2295240 We recently let this two bedroomed flat on Netherford Road for more than its asking price after receiving multiple offers.

Situated in Clapham Old Town on the ground floor of a Victorian house, the flat is newly refurbished and has a delightful decked garden. We recently let this fantastic three bedroomed house close to Clapham Common on a managed basis for 12 months at 850 per week.

The warm and welcoming interior includes a fantastic kitchen that opens out to a pretty patio garden.
