In the late 19th Century, the `Arts and Crafts Movement' was borne of a need for authentic and meaningful design.
A direct backlash again the `soulless' machine-made production lines spawned by the Industrial Revolution, its inspiration was rooted in the romantic idealisation of craftsmen taking pride in their own handiwork.
