As summer arrives in Islington this vibrant borough truly comes to life.

Local residents migrate outdoors, enjoying a coffee on the café-lined streets, a leisurely walk along the canal or a laze in the midday sun.

Across our area there are a number of public outdoor spaces, and this month I'd like to outline some of my personal favourites. Highbury Fields has afforded locals rest and relaxation for centuries.

Its rustic landscape evokes a calming sense of the countryside in the heart of London the perfect place for a soothing stroll.

And as Wimbledon fever hits this month, its multiple tennis courts will doubtless teem with wannabe Andy Murrays. Meanwhile, in nearby Stoke Newington, Clissold Park buzzes with activity throughout the summer months.

The paddling pool, adventure playground and zoo animals are a huge draw for children, as are the resident terrapins in the park's lakes and pools, while a tranquil rose garden invites older visitors to unwind against the backdrop of a former stately home. A private slice of outdoor life can really enhance the summer.

Many of Islington's older properties offer long lawned gardens, while developers tend to incorporate a balcony or terrace into newer properties, recognising their importance to buyers.

But perhaps the most interesting outdoor space on our roster is found nestled behind a five bedroomed period house on Noel Road. From the second reception room at the rear of the property, double doors open onto a rustic decked terrace, whose dining level is enhanced by the sight and sound of a pond complete with soothing water fountain and two bright goldfish.

A jumble of ivy and potted plants decorate the space, and at the foot of the garden lies the Regent's Canal, whose gentle passage adds tranquillity to an already peaceful haven. With such intriguing outdoor space, I don't expect this property to stay on the summer market for very long. Foxtons.co.uk/1246204 We recently received a fantastic offer on this three bedroomed, four storey house on Calabria Road, moments from Highbury Fields, which is currently on the market for 1,450,000. This one bedroomed flat on Lonsdale Square, a fabulous Barnsbury street where no two properties are the same, has recently sold for 325,000.
