There is no shortage of beautiful properties in Kingston, many of which have a colourful tale to tell of the rich history this prestigious area enjoys.
We recently took on a home with one such story, a charming cottage on Hampton Court Road that is said to have been built by Sir Robert Walpole today regarded as the first British Prime Minister in 1731.
The property has been passed down to various residents over the years, until in 1747 the Master Gardener of Hampton Court Palace, George Lowe, moved in.
His influence can still be seen today: during his time there he planted symmetrical rows of trees perfectly aligned with his bedroom window, and those same trees now fully mature and majestic in appearance are what make the view from the master bedroom so special. But this is not the only noteworthy thing about this extraordinary property.
Full of original features such as pretty fireplaces and ornate shelving indentations, and complete with bright, airy rooms and a warm and welcoming eat-in kitchen, the four bedroomed cottage is as perfect a family home today as it has proved to be throughout the preceding centuries.
Idyllically set amid a vast stretch of green, its front door is surrounded by the type of lush and vibrant foliage found in story books, and this impression is reinforced by the almost Disney-like presence of the Bushy Park deer who often graze just beyond the large bay window to the property's rear. In short, this quaint, fairytale home has fully retained the feel of what it is a rare relic from another time.
Foxtons.co.uk/11130908 We agreed an offer on this lovely three bedroomed detached cottage on Church Road in East Molesey on its third viewing.
The property, which was previously featured in this very magazine, was on the market at 975,000. This quirky one bedroomed house on Munster Road in Teddington recently went under offer with us. The property, which is architect designed, was on the market at 349,950.
