With summer just around the corner, local residents can finally look forward to spending their spare time in the sun.
East London has many more parks and commons than I could hope to mention, but this month I'd like to highlight some of my favourite local suntraps. Victoria Park in Bow is home to lush lawns, an `Old English Garden' and a weekday `one o'clock club' offering fun for the under-fives. Add this to numerous outdoor music events, including two Radiohead concerts in June, plus the Lovebox Weekender, Underage Festival and Field Day, and you have a line up of activities to please tots, teens and adults alike. London Fields Park in Hackney offers an array of outdoor facilities for our more active locals.
Tennis courts, a mini BMX track and two children's play areas join the impressive lido, reopened to deserved fanfare in summer 2006.
A popular cycle track dissects the park to join Broadway Market, which sells food, vintage clothing and crafts, and is ideal for a sunny stroll or to soak up the East End atmosphere. Back home, a private garden or terrace is the perfect place to entertain friends and family, or simply to unwind after a hard day's work.
Although often seen as a luxury in London, many of the properties on our roster especially the period houses offer a true slice of outdoor life.
One home in Sutton Place incorporates a rear paved patio, ideal for barbeques or an evening glass of wine. This prefaces a lush expanse of lawn, where palms meet the feathered fronds of shrubs in an explosion of greenery.

The property sits within a converted school and is close to Victoria Park itself. We recently completed the sale of this four bedroomed Victorian semi-detached house on Penshurst Road.
The property exchanged contracts for 835,000 within four weeks of the offer being accepted.
