Where do E2 locals go?

Clutch

An incredible restaurant in east London. Bright yellow and tiny in size, it serves the best fried chicken with American-style sides, including the dill and pomegranate slaw, which is unreal! Booking is recommended...

Casa Blue

Try the goldfish bowls in this trendy cocktail bar on Brick Lane...

Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium

Delicious afternoon tea in the company of adorable cats that live in the café.

Pho House

After trying nearly all of the Vietnamese restaurants on Kingsland Road, this is by far the best. The setting is cool with graffiti style art on the walls and the service is excellent compared to other places on the same road. Complimentary tea and watermelon at the end is exactly what is needed after trying the extensive menu of pho, noodles, summer rolls and fresh fish.

E. Pellicci

A local family run institution where you always feel welcome! This greasy spoon café is a proper traditional place with a buzzing atmosphere.

Oval Space

A club based off Hackney Road where international DJs and live acts play regularly. It also has terrace parties in the summer.

Brick Lane

You'll be spoilt for choice along Brick Lane when it comes to curry houses! The deals that some restaurants offer are out of this world...

York Hall Leisure Centre

Famous gym, spa and boxing venue!

BIRD

The only place in London to do a bacon doughnut... They also have amazing chicken and lunchtime deals in the week!

Bistrotheque

This place is great for brunches and lunches. They have a cabaret place downstairs so you really could stay all day if you wanted to!

Geffrye Museum

If you can't face the crowds at London's bigger museums, head to this place for a quieter and nicer experience. This museum is all about the home throughout the centuries and the café sells delicious cakes too!

Broadway Market

Broadway Market is the exact place to go to experience the best of what east London has to offer, with its fantastic range of food stalls, restaurants, shops and pubs! If you go in the summer, be sure to grab a beer and head over to London Fields, where the standard BBQ doesn't exist.

Cereal Killer Café

Much talked about, this place epitomises all that is trendy in the Shoreditch area!

Dark Sugars

Pure heaven for chocolate lovers! Handmade chocolates in a vast variety of flavours.

Beigel Bake

This infamous 24/7 bagel bakery is a firm favourite with both locals and tourists - the salt beef bagel is certainly hard to beat!

Why do you find E2 a great place to live?

Rehena

"I love Bethnal Green Gardens because there is a park inside for children and there is a spiderweb next to the park for older children Furthermore, there is a huge football pitch and a basketball area. Even though there is a football pitch and a basketball area, it is spacious. Also there is a grass hill that has dandelions all over. To add to this there is a library next to Bethnal Green Gardens. In addition, the whole area is... more

"I love Bethnal Green. It is situated perfectly on the central line and is great for getting around easily. Brick Lane Market on a Sunday is only a 10 minute walk away, along with the great night life in Shoreditch. It is the perfect place to really enjoy London for what it is – a busy, exciting, cosmopolitan city."

"I have lived in East London and have had the amazing opportunity of being born and bred in the heart of it! Bethnal Green has a lovely community and wonderful niche markets, local parks, cheap and cheerful as well as classy restaurants! If you're a fan of food look no further! Brick Lane, (which is round the corner!) has a large flea market with stalls selling antiques, clothes, bric-a-brac and all sorts of other weird and... more

"Bethnal Green is an awesome, urban area with an eclectic mix of people, ranging from students, arty hipsters, professionals working in the city to old school Cockney and Bangladeshi residents selling local wares (such as jellied eels, pie & mash and beautiful saris). Bethnal Green Road itself has everything you need from supermarkets, fresh fruit and veg stalls, excellent breakfast places (E Pelliccis and Cafe 338), numero... more

"In 1980 journalist Duncan Campbell entered (illegally) down an access shaft in Bethnal Green and attempted to cycle to Westminster. He was amazed at how well maintained and extensive the tunnels were under the city and had no need of a map as they were very well signposted."
