The Canonbury Tavern

The Canonbury Tavern

A public house since the early 1700's, The Canonbury Tavern was refurbished in 2009 giving the residents of Islington one of the best pub gardens in the city and a superb roast lunch on a Sunday. Moreover, the beautiful garden offers an escape from chaotic city life.

"27 Canonbury Square became the residence of famous novelist George Orwell after bombing forced him out of his home in St John's Wood in 1944."

I love walking down Upper Street and choosing where to go for breakfast, lunch and dinner - the choice is amazing!

Alongside all the restaurants and bars that make Upper Street so popular are the architectural gems that add character to the area.

What locals say about Islington and surrounding areas

  1. I love Newington Green because of the close community and village atmosphere. The proximity to Clissold and Church Street is handy, but Newington Green has most of what you need. This part of Green Lanes is really changing for the better and it's an exciting place to go now!
