"Located below an anonymous block of flats called Pear Tree House in Upper Norwood was a secret Civil Defence bunker from the Cold War. The bunker was not secret for long and was frequently daubed with CND stickers, before it was closed after pressure from the self-declared nuclear free Lambeth council in 1993."

Crystal Palace transmitting station is a beacon for the South.

Child-friendly activities near Norwood

Crafty Cooks

Braziliana Cafe
A love of cooking and an ability to do so is an important skill that every child should have. Children from as young as 24 months are taught how to cook a whole range of delicious, nutritious dishes. They will cook both sweet and savoury, from beetroot cakes to mini quiches with a spattering of chocolate in the middle! The lovely Heather runs Crafty Cooks South London. She runs regular classes and holiday clubs and really enjoys meeting lots of little Crafty Cooks! Website

Tippee Toes Music

Our class structure is designed for carers to fully participate in the class with their child and baby which is an extremely important part of the success of the classes. The more you take part in the music making and movement, the more your child will get out of it. Children learn by imitation and when they see you singing, playing musical instruments and moving to the music they will try to do the same. Website

Sing and Sign

LWS Cafe & Charity
Developed with the help of Speech and Language experts and launched in January 2001, the "Sing and Sign" programme has since taught thousands of parents across the UK how to sign with their babies and encourage amazing early communication. Website

Babysitting and Spa

The Shala
For all those exhausted parents in need of a stretch and some quiet time, we have now launched our on-site babysitting service at the Shala. On weekday mornings, you can bring your little person to be looked after and entertained in a studio next door, while you have some time to recharge, rejuvenate and RELAX with a massage or a yoga or Pilates class. On-site babysitting is available for our 9.30am weekday classes and treatments slots Tuesday to Friday. Your child will be looked after by an experienced childminder while you do a class or have a massage. The childminder has a great deal of experience looking after young children - she looks after our children and comes highly recommended! NB We may offer more times for this service in the future. £20 for 5 babysitting sessions (valid for 3 months) 3-12 months £25 for 5 babysitting sessions (valid 3 months) Website

The Shala - Postnatal Massage

The Shala
After the birth, post-natal massage can provide an invaluable opportunity for mother's to allow time for self-nurture. Ideally, all new mothers would have a massage as soon after birth as possible, to help the muscles release the muscle memory of labour, gently aid healing and help with spinal realignment. These are all important factors in helping your body to return to its pre-pregnancy state. Post-natal massage can be easily done with your baby tucked up beside you, or feeding. Website

Try Time Kids' Rugby

Belair Park
We have created rugby based games and activities that increase kids enjoyment of sport as well as develop them physically. We know what keeps kids entertained and enthused and we believe passionately that our rugby play sessions for all kids from 2 years old to 7 years old, will give them the attributes they will need to go on and play the next level of rugby... or indeed any sport. There are 3 age groups that we run at every venue, Rascals (2-3.5), Scoundrels (3.5-5) and Scrummers (5-7). Kat and Nathan have been coaching children's rugby together for many years. They run the Dulwich site together with a "two heads are better than one" attitude. The Dulwich coaching team attempt to challenge the kids' imaginations and creativity to be weird and wonderful, working with the philosophy that when the kids are having fun, the rugby skills and athleticism inevitably follow.
