Today it was announced that Phil Collins is returning to the stage with his comeback tour, starting at the Royal Albert Hall in August 2017.

But did you know that Phil Collins was in fact born and raised in Chiswick? Although Phil no longer lives in this leafy part of West London, we take a look at his birthplace and why Chiswick is such a great area to live in.

Where is Chiswick?

To the west of Hammersmith and just north of the River Thames across from Kew, Chiswick sits in a bend of Thames – meaning there are plenty of beautiful places to walk and lots of quiet roads suitable for Londoners looking for a quieter place to live.

Chiswick's transport links

While pretty green spaces and Chiswick’s riverside position draw families searching for a peaceful setting and outstanding schools – in fact, Phil attended Chiswick School on Burlington Lane in the 1960s – its transport links ensure quick routes into central London via the District line, and National Rail links from Chiswick Station through Clapham Junction and on to London Waterloo.

The M4 also starts at Chiswick, which means it’s only a short drive to Heathrow, too!

Things to do in Chiswick

Known for its well-heeled residents and celebrity faces, Chiswick is not short of high-end restaurants – such as La Trompette and Soho House’s High Road House – as well as the independent boutiques and coffee shops along Chiswick High Road.

Providing a peaceful aspect to appreciate Chiswick’s charm, Strand-on-the-Green stretches along the Thames from Kew Bridge to Grove Park and has a number of watering holes, like The City Barge and The Bell and Crown, which serves a fantastic fish and chips!

Types of properties in Chiswick

Popular with families and professionals searching for a property with both out of town charm and travel convenience, the properties in Chiswick comprise of mainly period houses and flat conversions, particularly in the Grove Park area. In contrast, around Kew Bridge there are a number of contemporary developments, such as impressive Kew Bridge West.
