What makes theatre so magic and why is Shakespeare still relevant? When an alarm is deliberately set off during their GCSE drama exam, a group of students find themselves in detention. As they struggle to navigate the seemingly endless tasks theyve been set as punishment, questions are raised. Who set off the alarm and why? Will they ever get out of this detention? Will it cost them their GCSE? And why is Shakespeare still so popular? So begins a meta deconstruction of the play as we move from classroom to theatre, artifice to reality. The performers switch between their characters and their real selves as they interrogate Shakespeare, the canon, the education system, the nature of theatre, and the world itself. They begin to wonder whether the classics really are that classic, or whether we might need to tell a different story altogether.... KCS Christmas Concert The Holy Birth , a carol sequence for organ and choir, was commissioned by Gloucester Cathedral Choral Society in 1985. This joyous seasonal celebration is infused with the natural grace that characterises the choral works ofHerbert Sumsion, a contemporary and friend of Elgar and Vaughan Williams. In addition to this delightful piece, there will also be our traditional festive offering of favourite choir and audience carols, interval drinks and mince pies! Building on our successful cornerHOUSE Write itthen write it better workshops in October 2021, weve formed a playwrights group to help each other improve our writing for the stage. Participants are invited to offer a draft scene/script/part script (5-15 pages) for table-reading and discussion. We meet every six weeks and will usually have time to work on 3-4 such pieces per session. If you dont have a draft ready to share, we need readers (you dont have to be an actor!) and listeners ready to discuss, suggest and provide constructive feedback. Attendance at every session isnt essential, but numbers are limited to 12, so sign up early to secure a place. Youll then be contacted with further details and in case you have any questions.

Now, Gomez Addams must do something hes never done before keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesdays normal boyfriend and his parents. A remote cabin in the wilds of Alaska. As a blizzard rages outside, a lonely figure, Henry Harry, lies sleeping under a heap of blankets. Suddenly, he is awakened by the insistent knocking of an unexpected visitor who turns out to be Rosannah DeLuce, a distraught young woman who has fled all the way from Arizona to escape her impending marriage, and who bursts into the cabin dressed in full bridal regalia. Exhausted, she throws herself on Henry's mercy, but after sleeping for two days straight, her vigor and combativeness return. Both characters, it develops, have been wounded and embittered by life, and both are refugees from so-called civilization. Thrown together in the confines of the snowbound cabin, they alternately repel and attract each other as, in theatrically vivid exchanges, they explore the pain of the past and, in time, consider the possibilities of the present. In the end their very isolation proves to be the catalyst that allows them to break through the web of old griefs and bitter feelings that beset them both and to reach out for the solace and sanctuary that only hard-won understanding, self-awareness and compassion for the plight of others can bestow. This years cornerHouse panto will beA Midsummer Nights Theme. Yes, our traditional New Year production has finally gone from Bard to verse! With many apologies to William Shakespeare, plus Felix Mendelssohn and a few other creatives whose work is being shamelessly re-imagined, well, plagiarised, the show will recount the tale of mismatched lovers cast adrift in an enchanted forest. There will be fairies, of course, and one unfortunate chap who gets transformed into an ass. But alls well that ends well sorry wrong play and the panto will be staged from January 27th to 31st.
