“Barking is close to parks. Plenty of shopping facilities including ethnic shopping. Close to A13 and North Circular so can go to rest of Essex, Lakeside or Southend or go to Central London, North and East London.”

“Broadway theatre near the town hall has good comedy nights. (It was formerly called the Asembely hall and Neil Young recorded there) Living in Barking's town centre is handy for transport and nice and compact for local amenities like the new library and mall - As a commuter I originally came there for the frequent C2C intercity trains which plonk you in Fenchurch Street within 20 minutes. The tube is not bad for Canary Wharf and Kings X either but if you want some hilly scenery (Barking is more flat essex than high rise/river view east end) then the overground is only half an hour across North London to Gospel Oak. ”
