Godalming Operatic Society presents Utopia, Limited, one of Gilbert & Sullivan's lesser known operas, a hilarious satire on English institutions and customs, as relevant and humorous today as when it was first written. King Paramount, the autocratic ruler of the South Sea island of Utopia, has sent his daughter, Princess Zara, to England to learn about English ways and customs, with the intention of modernising Utopia. She returns with six Flowers of Progress (gentlemen who represent the Great & Good of England) to explain English culture and institutions. One of the Flowers is a company promoter, who suggests to the King that Utopia becomes a limited company. The King agrees, with hilarious and unforeseen results Written in 1893, Utopia, Limited was Gilbert and Sullivans penultimate collaboration in which Gilbert satirises almost every English institution. It is accompanied by some of Sullivans finest music with colourful sets and costumes. This fully staged and costumed production will be directed by Duncan Hamilton. The 24 piece professional orchestra will be conducted by Musical Director Dick Stockton. Be sure not to miss this rarely-performed gem. CLT are back with another brilliant family-friendly pantomime this time an original adaptation of the classic taleJack and the Beanstalk! Join us for a show full of beans, beanstalks, and belly laughs. Cheer for our loveable but clumsy Dame, boo the evil landlord, and dont forget to shout out for Jack himself! Expect cows, romance, mischief, and of course what would Jack and the Beanstalk be without a GIANT? Can Jack save his mother from eviction? Will his sister Dotty manage to keep three hapless lumberjacks out of trouble? Theres only one way to find out come along, laugh, sing, and join in the fun with CLT !

If you have always wanted to join a choir locally, you can! The local Godalming choir is run by vocal teacher Thomas George. People who have already joined the choir, who hail from Godalming and further afield in Surrey often have never sung before or had any vocal tuition. Once you join the choir you will find you learn the songs by rote from a brilliant set of resources and you will be amazed how quickly you go from 'not sure' to 'performance ready'. The songs are uniquely arranged in a way that helped Rock Choir originally establish the simple high/middle and optional low voice approach to make songs easy to sing yet still challenge you in places. A fun and jam packed evening embracing the traditions of Burns Night. The evening will include the traditional 'toast to the haggis' poem read by our very own and proud Scotsman, Dr Smith, a delicious and traditional three course meal, a cash and card bar serving a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and not forgetting a Ceilidh Band. An optional 'toast to the haggis' of whiskey will be available to purchase on the night for 3.00 at the bar. Dress code is formal - kilts or a tartan accessory are welcome! Discover the untold story of seven remarkable sisters whose influence rippled through the worlds of art, literature, photography, and society in the 19th-century. Nicknamed “Pattledom” by the writer William Makepeace Thackeray (1811–1863), the sisters’ world was one of rich cross-cultural exchange, where Anglo-Indian heritage, European influence, and artistic experimentation converged in a vibrant social sphere that defied Victorian convention. Whilst the photographer Julia Margaret Cameron (1815–1879) is today the most celebrated of the sisters, this exhibition uncovers their collective impact. Through rarely seen portraits, evocative photographs, treasured possessions, and new research, discover how their influence extended from Calcutta, India (now Kolkata) to Kensington, and from the salons of Little Holland House to the Bloomsbury Group.
