One of the most remarkable artists of her generation, Evelyn De Morgan, is returning to Guildhall Art Gallery this year in a major exhibition that premieres two newly restored artworks. In collaboration with the De Morgan Foundation, Guildhall Art Gallery will present ‘Evelyn De Morgan: The Modern Painter in Victorian London’, from 4 April 2025 to celebrate the work of an extraordinary artist who flew in the face of convention. While exhibiting her paintings in London, a selection of Evelyn De Morgan’s work was included in a ‘Collection of the British School who Have Flourished during Her Majesty's reign’ at Guildhall Art Gallery in 1897. More recently, one of her paintings was featured in the gallery’s ‘Enchanted Interior’ exhibition in 2020. Evelyn De Morgan’s richly coloured canvases, featuring beautifully draped figures laden with messages of feminism, spirituality, and the rejection of war and material wealth, won her many high-profile admirers, including Oscar Wilde, Sir Charles Dilke MP, and the Pre-Raphaelite painter, William Holman Hunt.

Baba Yaga's Hut and The Barbican presents: Jóhann Jóhannsson: Cinematic Suites This special performance of Jóhann Jóhannsson's Cinematic Suites, brings to life the evocative musical landscapes of four acclaimed films: The Theory of Everything, Prisoners, Sicario and Arrival. Tonight's audience will be treated to a celebration of the late Icelandic composer's cinematic masterpieces, as we honour Jóhannsson’s legacy and the transformative power of music in film. Jóhannsson's elegantly minimalist score for James Marsh's film, The Theory of Everything, escorts audiences on an inspirational biographical journey through the adult life of renowned physicist Stephen Hawking. And experience Jóhannsson's powerfully moving compositions, which heighten the cinematic tension, emotion, and narrative depth of three films from visionary director Denis Villeneuve; Prisoners, Sicario and Arrival. These suites of music, masterfully performed by the London Contemporary Orchestra, will transport audiences through the haunting and emotive soundscapes that have become synonymous with Jóhannsson's genius.
