Building on our successful cornerHOUSE Write itthen write it better workshops in October 2021, weve formed a playwrights group to help each other improve our writing for the stage. Participants are invited to offer a draft scene/script/part script (5-15 pages) for table-reading and discussion. We meet every six weeks and will usually have time to work on 3-4 such pieces per session. If you dont have a draft ready to share, we need readers (you dont have to be an actor!) and listeners ready to discuss, suggest and provide constructive feedback. Attendance at every session isnt essential, but numbers are limited to 12, so sign up early to secure a place. Youll then be contacted with further details and in case you have any questions.

A History of Popular Music from the 1930s to the 1970s features some of the greatest musical songs of the period. Ranging from classic Jazz songs in the 1930s and !940s to the Pop and Rock of the 1960s and 1970s by way of great Blues, Folk, Country and Soul songs Expect to hear songs by Ella, Johnny, Elmore, Woody, Pete, Frank, Big Mama, Elvis, Don, Nina, Dusty, John & Paul, Joni, Neil, Paul, Bill, Bob and Wilbert The songs will be interspersed with poetry, inspired by the music and history of the period, from local poets

Enjoy an evening viewing of the 10th Century Kings with a talk on the history of the Saxon Kings and the creation of the embroidery panels. Bar available. Enjoy a glass of Prosecco under the gaze of the Kings. Seven Kings, including the first Kings of England are traditionally thought to have been crowned at Kingston Upon Thames. Before All Saints Church was built, the site was an important estate of the West Saxon Kings and host to Royal coronations. Our talk will tell this significant heritage story through the series of seven spectacular and unique embroidery panels (six of which are currently displayed) touching on the Saxon history of the area, the reigns of the Kings and characters depicted, and the incredible talent that has gone into the design and execution of the panels themselves. Embroidery panels have a long tradition of being used as symbols of power or to tell a story to enforce a message. Such works can be found in the great houses of the nobility or wealthy merchants, royal palaces and of course, in churches. Join us as we delve into these amazing works of textile art. The panels are being created by award winning contemporary embroiderer Jacky Puzey. Jackys speciality of machine embroidery is further embellished with hand embroidery and beading by Beatrice Mayfield, contemporary hand embroiderer and visiting lecturer at the Royal School of Needlework.
