For nearly twenty years, Run For Cover have been lighting up the local live music scene with their high energy take on classic party anthems. Their set jumps effortlessly from disco and funk to britpop, indie rock and modern chart hits, all delivered with the bands trademark style that keeps crowds dancing and singing from the first song to the last. Keeping the energy flowing between sets will be DJ Sophie, spinning funky electronic grooves to keep the party rolling! All Saints Church has become one of Kingstons most exciting and unusual live music venues. Thanks to its long-standing partnership with Banquet Records, the historic church has welcomed performances from major artists including Bombay Bicycle Club, Sigrid and Olly Murs, turning the beautiful space into a unique destination for live music. Several members studied at Kingston University, and Run For Cover even played the final ever show at the universitys famous Penrhyn Road campus bar. Enjoy an evening viewing of the 10th Century Kings with a talk on the history of the Saxon Kings and the creation of the embroidery panels. Bar available. Enjoy a glass of Prosecco under the gaze of the Kings. Seven Kings, including the first Kings of England are traditionally thought to have been crowned at Kingston Upon Thames. Before All Saints Church was built, the site was an important estate of the West Saxon Kings and host to Royal coronations. Our talk will tell this significant heritage story through the series of seven spectacular and unique embroidery panels (six of which are currently displayed) touching on the Saxon history of the area, the reigns of the Kings and characters depicted, and the incredible talent that has gone into the design and execution of the panels themselves. Embroidery panels have a long tradition of being used as symbols of power or to tell a story to enforce a message. Such works can be found in the great houses of the nobility or wealthy merchants, royal palaces and of course, in churches. Join us as we delve into these amazing works of textile art. The panels are being created by award winning contemporary embroiderer Jacky Puzey. Jackys speciality of machine embroidery is further embellished with hand embroidery and beading by Beatrice Mayfield, contemporary hand embroiderer and visiting lecturer at the Royal School of Needlework.
