"Chobham Common is the legendary source of the Chobham Treacle Mine. The treacle in question was to be used by a garrison of troops stationed there before they shipped out to the Crimea, but the treacle was left in a small subterranean cave where it could cool and hopefully not ferment. In 1901, they began to burst and it began to run down the hillside."
