The Laudate Choir and ENSEMBLE 8 perform Iain Farrington's acclaimed chamber ensemble arrangement of Brahms Ein deutsches Requiem. Cressida Sharp soprano Tristan Hambleton baritone Howard Ionascu conductor ENSEMBLE 8 Richard Gowers - piano John Mills - violin Jonathan Barritt - viola Bozidar Vukotic - cello Claire Whitson - double bass Monica McCarron - flute Harvey Jones - oboe Marie Lloyd - clarinet Originally scored for symphony orchestra, Brahms made a version for piano duet which has found popularity in recent years. Performances with piano lack the richness, colour and sustain of the long lines in Brahms' work. This arrangement for chamber ensemble has the piano at the core, while adding seven other instrumentalists to create a satisfying and Brahmsian texture, retaining much of the original orchestration. The choral and solo parts remain unchanged from Brahms' original.Read more
