“Let the World Be a Question”: Monika Lidke Album Launch! Monika’s band will perform songs from their album “Let the World Be a Question” and beloved jazz standards in their unique, jazz-folk style with Latin accents. Line up: Monika Lidke - vocals Matt Chandler - guitar Tom Ollendorff – guitar Jakub Cywinski - double bass Adam Teixeira - drums Monika Lidke is a singer-songwriter of Polish origin, currently living in London. She creates exciting and original music that truly connects with the audience. Her songs blend jazz, folk, and Latin grooves with Polish and French roots to create a mesmerising live show. Her debut album, Waking Up to Beauty, was released in 2008, shortly after moving to the UK from Paris. The album achieved critical acclaim around Europe, especially in Poland, where it was championed by well-known radio presenter Marek Niedźwiecki, who described it as “beautiful, delicate, addictive!” Monika’s subsequent albums – ‘If I Was to Describe You’ (2014), ‘Gdyby każdy z nas’ (2017), and ‘Let the World Be a Question’ further explore songwriting within the wide umbrella of jazz, world, and folk music, featuring collaborations with outstanding guests including Basia Trzetrzelewska, Janek Gwizdala, Marek Napiórkowski and Shez Raja, and resulting in invitations to perform at prestigious venues such as Agnieszka Osiecka Studio in Warsaw, Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Jazz Club, 606 Club, as well as major festivals including the London Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival, Jazzahead, and Rhythms of the World Festival. A keen collaborator, Monika co-writes songs for film and TV with international composers, poets, and lyricists.

She was awarded the Guildhall Artist Fellowship twice after completing a Masters Degree in Historical Performance at the institution. This recital traces musical roots across borders, politics, and time. George Frederic Handel, who lived for a period in Barnes, is represented by two dazzling harpsichord suites, including the famous Harmonious Blacksmith variations. His contemporary Domenico Scarlatti, whose career spanned Italy, Portugal, and Spain, is heard in a vivid selection of sonatas and fiery Fandango. Although their paths first crossed in Italy, both composers later became entangled in the political and cultural currents of 18th-century London, where Scarlattis sonatas even appeared in a striking Jacobite edition. Their music reflects not only virtuosity and invention but also the shifting allegiances of their world. Bringing the story closer to home, the programme also honours Barnes-based composer Stephen Dodgson (19242013), whose Inventions connect modern creativity with the harpsichords long tradition. Young Riverscribes is a brand new version of a Young Company; a chance for anyone interested in performing and theatre making to have fun, challenge themselves and collaborate together. Young Riverscribes is a combination of classic young company skills sessions, and visiting professional workshops from partners including Drama schools, Casting agents, agencies and more. Sessions will support you developing skills and technique in voice, movement, character and text work. As part of the company youll be invited to perform at Burnt Orange scratch nights and upcoming projects. Who are we looking for? We are looking for anyone aged 14-21 to make up the company. Maybe youre experienced or this is a brand new experience for you, or somewhere in between! Sessions will be tailored to all experience levels and we will be grateful for your energy, enthusiasm and excitement to work and build together as creatives. Company members are encouraged to join as many sessions per term as possible, but there is no minimum attendance requirement. Some sessions will be capped to a limited number of participants.
