Event Summary: The great Henry Fielding (1707-1755), novelist, satirist, playwright, and founder of the Bow Street Runners, lived in Barnes - in a house that still stands by Barnes Pond - and worshipped at St Marys, the church where this special musical of celebration of his most famous novel is being performed. Henry Fielding published The History of Tom Jones in 1749. In 1907, the British composer Edward German (1862-1936), best known for Merrie England, turned the story into a popular comic opera. For the Barnes Music Festival, Gyles Brandreth is bringing Henry Fielding back to Barnes, retelling the story of Tom Jones in Fieldings own words, while maestro Stefan Bednarczyk, is bringing Edward Germans opera back to life, with choruses from the English Chamber Choir and a cast of professional soloists.

The address is given by The Revd Dr Matthew Cheung Salisbury, Director of Studies and Lecturer in the Faculty of Music at the University of Oxford, as well as being National Liturgical Adviser to the Church of England. He was awarded the Kings Coronation Medal for his involvement in the planning of the Coronation in 2023. The service is followed by a reception to celebrate the festival to which all are invited.

Mario Bakuna on Acoustic Guitar and Vocals Mario Bakuna performs a concert dedicated to João Gilberto who was a pioneer of the musical genre of Bossa Nova in the late 1950s. Around the world, he was often called "father of Bossa Nova". Gilberto's style combines traditional elements of samba with more contemporary jazz. His unique acoustic guitar style involves a syncopated rhythm of plucked chords, with chord progressions rooted in the jazz tradition. Mario will present reinterpretations of some of his compositions and celebrate with the audience one of the greatest Brazilian musicians of all time.

This is a one-act comedic opera full of emotion, humour and chaos which follows the court case of Angelina and Edwin after she claims he has broken his word to marry her. How will the trial unfold? A truly unbelievable series of events, youll have to see it to believe it! The Garsington Opera Adult Company is made up of participants from the Garsingtons local community who come together to rehearse and perform at Garsington Studios. Each year they present at least one production featuring professional soloists, players and creative team, and Trial by Jury will be their Barnes Music Festival debut. Created to reveal the surprising diversity of trumpet-trio repertoire, the ensemble claimed First Prize in the 2022 Musicians Company Brass Ensemble Prize for a programme blending Donninger, Britten, and Gubaidulina. Though not a household name, three-trumpet chamber music spans an astonishing spectrumfrom the ceremonial fanfares of the 1600s to the avant-garde experiments of today. Natrio draws on this breadth to craft performances that are at once vivid and inventive. As they move forward, the group plans to broaden its horizons by collaborating with contemporary composers and extending their outreach, sharing their distinctive sound with an ever-wider audience.
