Old Operating Theatre Museum and Herb Garret Tuesday 13th January 2026 NOTE: THIS EVENT WAS PREVIOUSLY INCORRECTLY PUBLICISED AS BEING ON WEDNESDAY 14th JANUARY Meet at 12 noonfor a talk at 12.30 and exclusive time in the museum. Very close to London Bridge Railway Station (main exit), and near Borough Market. This wonderful place is a museum of surgical history and one of the oldest operating theatres. It is housed in the attic of the eighteenth-century church, up a narrow 52-step spiral staircase. The Herb Garret is where herbs for natural medicines were dried and stored. For those who cannot negotiate the spiral staircase, there is a small lift for only two persons. There are no toilets in the museum, but adequate loos in the Station and similar in the Market - one must come prepared! This will be a fascinating and fun visit, not only because the Museum is unique but the Market is a great place to look around too. Also there is a National Trust pub, The George, dating from the 17th century only five minutes away, where food and drink are available all day - a place that is London's last remaining galleried inn and where we are welcome! The NT let the building to a private company so membership is not required but the inn is worth a visit. The visit will include an exclusive talk and two hours time in the museum for our group.
