Digging the Bigger Picture: The Friends of Cookham Abbey Art and Archaeology Symposium - Day 1
Set in historic Cookham, the symposium takes place directly at the Cookham Abbey excavation site by the peaceful Thames riverside.
With presentations, talks, and panel discussions, this event is designed to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and promote collaboration.
Join us to bring artists and archaeologists together to deepen our understanding of place and history. Enjoy engaging discussions and hands-on activities that encourage innovative, cross-disciplinary approaches to interpreting the past.
This is a two day free event, you can book both days or just one day.
Day One Thursday 31st July
Experience insightful talks, a tour of the Cookham Abbey dig, panel discussions, and a new exhibition, uniting artists and archaeologists in innovative collaboration.
Held alongside the University of Readings excavation of the early medieval Cookham Abbey site

Guided tour with Professor Gabor Thomas of the active Cookham Abbey excavation site, a Royal Anglo-Saxon Monastic Settlement.
Launch of River & Earth exhibition at Holy Trinity Church, featuring six contemporary artists inspired by the dig
Refreshments are provided for both days
Lunch is provided on Day 1; if you book to attend both sessions on Day 2, please bring a packed lunch
