All creatures great and small have frequently been a source of inspiration for composers of choral and vocal music. In this concert, you can enjoy pieces in the widest variety of styles, from the Renaissance to the present day, all with an animal theme. Youll hear how different composers view the same creature - Thomas Vautors Suffolk Owl contrasting with Elgars eerie setting, and the bee as envisaged by John Wilbye, Frank Bridge right up to a recently premiered work by Cecilia McDowall. The Nightingale is heard in the Vienna of Alban Berg but also in Berkeley Square. Orlando Gibbons Silver Swan is paired with an Italian swan. You can expect the widest variety of styles and moods, from the tranquil beauty of John Taveners The Lamb and Eric Whitacres Seal Lullaby , to the humour of Frederick Bridges The Goslings and Philip Colls Animal Songs . We are joined by John Winter as our pianist, and are led by our musical director David Lardi.

Join Mick Wall & Jon Hotten in conversation with the legendary Don Airey Plus: JOEL McIVER (Metal Guru Biographer of LEMMY, CLIFF, RANDY and GLENN HUGHES) Don has been a player on the rock scene for over 25 years, notching up almost 200 album credits and associations with 20 or more major bands including Cozy Powell's Hammer, Colosseum II, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Jethro Tull and ELO. Don has been continually occupied recording, producing or touring with a multitude of artists including Tony Iommi, Glenn Hughes, Ten, Uli Jon Roth, Judas Priest, Silver, opera singer Mark Rattray, Gary Barden, Michael Schenker, UFO, Graham Bonnet and, last but not least, Deep Purple. Don came to Purple's rescue mid 2001 to help out for an injured Jon Lord, who has since retired, with Don recording the new album with Deep Purple as the band's permanent keyboard player.
