Foxtons will be expanding its involvement in Pride in London this year, following a highly successful Pride in 2018. Our presence at the event on July 6th will be themed around encouraging diversity in the workplace, with almost 70 Foxtons team members taking part. As well as joining the main parade for the first time, we will be manning a stall in the heart of the festivities in Soho Square.
The 2019 Pride in London event will be celebrating Pride Jubilee – 50 years since the birth of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. Foxtons' ongoing involvement with Pride in London combines with the continuing expansion of its diversity groups, including Afro Foxtons, Women At Foxtons and the LGBTQ+ Group.
Visitors to the Foxtons stall in Soho square will have chance to talk with staff from different areas of the business. Any individuals interested in a career with us will be able to have their questions answered and register their details directly with our HR team.
We spoke to Tiago Carvalho and Vikki Broad, Chairs of the LGBTQ+ group, about the significance of our involvement with Pride in London.
"Pride in London is a celebration of everything LGBTQ+," explained Vikki, Sales Manager in our Hampstead branch. "We are really excited that Foxtons will be taking part in the parade for the first time this year along with hosting a stall as part of a recruitment drive to try and reach out to more LGBTQ+ talent across London.
"Foxtons is a really diverse place to work and has made amazing progress in the last couple of years," she added, "launching not only the LGBTQ+ network but also Afro Foxtons and Women at Foxtons, giving extra support to our colleagues along with great networking opportunities. Pride in London is a great opportunity to showcase just how diverse a workplace Foxtons is and the great work that we are doing here."
Tiago, Rare Lettings Negotiator in our South Kensington branch, highlighted the significance of the 50-year anniversary of the Stonewall riots that triggered a process of reforms that continue today:
"This year we will be celebrating 50 years of pride, and if it weren’t for those events at Stonewall we probably wouldn’t have the freedom we have today. Being the first estate agency to take part in the parade is a huge step for us. We have an incredible and diverse workforce and my goal is to be able to show it to everyone!"
Diversity Groups
Diversity groups at Foxtons run a variety of events throughout the year. The Women At Foxtons mentoring programme has been running for over three years now, providing support and advice for attendees on how to maximise their careers at Foxtons. The Afro Foxtons group have met with senior leaders within the company and enjoyed a session with award-winning hairdresser Charlotte Mensah, while the LGBTQ+ group hosted an evening with renowned human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell.
