Thats the way to do it! Punch and Judy: a British entertainment institution famously contained within the confines of a small striped box. But what happens when the chaotic lives of these iconic characters tumble out of the booth and spill out into the real world? With a blend of slapstick, clown and puppetry vs naturalistic drama; this dark tragicomedy explores the public and private lives of Punch and Judy alongside the whole host of characters that have for centuries populated their world. But, as the two sides of what happens on stage and off begin to blur, it makes for an unsettling comedy about our nation's most beloved and problematic couple - that is definitely, no longer for kids. The skin and bones in my face and all of the squidgy stuff in between rearrange themselves until Im myself, completely myself, but different. Jules is having trouble fitting in. Fitting in at camp, fitting in with boys, fitting into their own body. Aiden is popular, self-assured, and drawn to Jules for reasons he cant understand. Mud becomes a canvas for Jules and Aiden a place for play, intimacy and mutual understanding. But the pressures of camp and adolescence are coming to a head. Jules struggles with their first forays into gender expression, while Aiden struggles to make sense of early desires. The spectres of bullies and rigidly enforced masculinity hang over both of their heads. Can their friendship survive? Told over the course of four summers, MUD is a play about growing up trans, and the struggle to feel comfortable in your own skin. To mark Earth Day, our second-year BA Photography students present photography and moving image exhibition, exploring their relationships with the planet, politics, communities of belonging, and cultural values in our post-humanist world. Following the course's move to Holloway Rd, the exhibition is also a practice in homemaking, as we start to establish our roots at the Holloway campus, the neighbourhood, as well as opening new ways of continuing our collaborative relationships with the library and friendships with other the courses across the School of Art, Architecture and Design community. The show is curated across London Met Holloway Road Library ground floor, study, and relaxation areas. RHIZOMES becomes an ecotone, an environment where art, knowledge, and imagination co-inhabit, where, as visitors we become something more than an audience.
