Join the South West London Choral Society as we present Bach's powerful and visceral retelling of Christ's final days in one of his finest choral masterpieces, the St John Passion. Written 300 years ago, Bach's workstill connects just as deeply now as it did then, with music full of dramatic tension, heartbreaking beauty, and calm reflection. The work will be performed in its entirety, and will be sung in English.We look forward to seeing you there! The concert takes place in the appropriately glorious setting of St. Annes Church, Wandsworth. All are welcome to attend, particularly younger fans of classical music, as under-18s are admitted free of charge, and tickets are half price for 18-25 or full time students. Tickets for adults are priced at 12.50 in advance, available from www.swlcs.org.uk, or 15 on the door. Established in 1886, the South West London Choral Society is a professionally-led choir of amateur singers, bringing a variety of choral works, both famous and little-known, to the community of South West London. It is a welcoming choir, open to adults of all ages and backgrounds with an interest in rehearsing and performing choral music written by composers from Bach to Brahms, from Victoria to Vaughan Williams, from Mozart to Mendelssohn. The choir meets in Balham Baptist Church on Mondays at 7.30pm, and rehearses over the course of three terms per year, starting in September, January and April. Frequently Asked Questions Is this a standing show? Yes, this is a standing show with admission to the ground floor and balcony areas of the venue. There is limited unreserved seating at the back of the balcony. The venue will be filled on a first come first served basis starting from the ground floor and then up to the balcony so arrive early to maximise your chance of getting the space in the venue you require. Who needs a ticket? Everyone who is attending the event (with the exception of those entitled to a carer companion ticket) will need a ticket to enter. Can we bring our own food? Hot dogs, vegan hot dogs, nachos, and sweet treats are available. Externally bought food or drink is not allowed at this event. Does my teenager need to be accompanied? Everyone who is under the age of 18 needs to be accompanied by a responsible adult over the age of 18. Is this event suitable for my noise-sensitive/light-sensitive child? You know your child better than we do, but we do ask you to consider that these are loud events with special effects and flashing lights before purchasing tickets. If you think your child will enjoy the event but they are noise-sensitive, we would recommend bringing ear defenders with you for your child to wear.
