Fulham is a beautiful area to walk around. If you’re considering living here, the Foxtons Fulham Broadway office suggest a stroll around New Kings Road and Fulham Road, or the gorgeous tree-lined streets down by the river to get a good feel for the space. You’ll absolutely fall in love.

See our collab guide with DesignMyNight on Fulham’s best restaurants and pubs.

What’s it like to live in Fulham? A country haven in zone 2.

Fulham has a style reminiscent of neighbouring Chelsea; prosperous and picturesque, with plenty of high-end boutiques and period property. However, whilst Chelsea is the rockstar – the dreamland for A-listers’ designer penthouses and second homes, Fulham sets the ideal for family life. Residents live here; they get involved in the active community and fill out their days with park walks and visits to local cafés. Foxtons Fulham Broadway managers told us all about the comfortable, friendly and almost countryside atmosphere – a bubble of suburbia that’s remarkably close to the bustle of Central London. Our Lettings Manager for Fulham Broadway, Alex Fleet said, “it’s funny because it’s not zone 1, but everybody acts like it is.”

“We’ve got houses in the middle, obvious plusses about that, but then you’ve got a lot of new-build developments,” Alex described the huge variety this area offers, “You’ve also got the big houses with gardens. You don't tend to get like gardens and houses in, you know, Earls Court. It’s all mansion blocks in Chelsea, and they might have communal gardens.”

Along the river, starting from Hammersmith Bridge, there are waterfront pubs and restaurants, and a group of broad streets lined with stunning multi-million-pound houses. These streets are laid out alphabetically, Bishop’s Park, Cloncurry St, Doneraile St… earning them the local nickname “Alphabet Streets.” Then, rounding the bend at Putney Bridge, you have historic Fulham Palace and members-only Hurlingham Club, before getting into new-build apartment blocks on the way to Chelsea Harbour. These developments have modern interiors and exceptional views out over the Thames, along with amenities like gyms, pools and concierge.

In our Fulham office’s experience, Parson’s Green is the area everyone asks about for its exceptional property, close-knit village feel and upscale businesses – gourmet grocery stores, specialty butchers, high-end interior shops, exceptional bakeries, fine wine shops. Munster Village is a little underrated for its beautiful family homes. Fulham Sales Manager, Bradley Deadman said this area is “naturally very popular with families because it has good schooling and lots of parks.”

By road or rail

Transport is important, because the M4 is convenient to get to, and takes you out to Heathrow. Getting into the city, the District line runs all the way through Fulham and takes you up to Earl’s Court, or you can get on the Piccadilly line.

What to do for fun in Fulham

Fulham also makes great use of outdoor space. On sunny weekends, families take advantage of the farmers market and plentiful parks to stretch their legs. Bradley said, “A typical Saturday morning for someone living in the area would involve exercising, visiting one of the many gyms, maybe a game of tennis or a run along the river, followed by meeting with friends and family for a walk around the parks and grabbing a coffee or a bite to eat from one of the many cafés or famers markets.”

Besides the thriving café culture, there’s something for the sports fan, too. There are two big members tennis clubs – one of which, Queens Club, hosts the warm-up tournament before Wimbledon. Fulham FC is the oldest football club in London. Stamford Bridge is nearby (that’s why you’ll see plenty of Chelsea Football Club flags about) and the renowned annual Oxford vs Cambridge boat race starts in Fulham.
